Description:
This is a very "RARE" , nice "Swedish" proofed, "Three Crowns" Lefaucheux Single Action Pinfire Revolver.  Civil War Era!
serial #80043, 12mm Pinfire, 6 1/4" barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing some scattered spots of pinprick pitting and strong rifling throughout. The barrel and cylinder are toning to a pleasant gray-brown patina showing some scattered light dings, freckling and bright streaks of original blue throughout strongest along the back edge of the cylinder and other protected areas. The triggerguard and buttcap likewise retain strong remnants of original bright blue with toning to gray while the hammer and trigger remain mostly bright showing some scattered mild gray freckling. The frame has mostly toned to a silvery case-hardened patina and the loading gate shows an older repair at the hinge. All markings remain quite crisp and clear with Lefaucheux's Paris address and patent markings along the top and bottom left tang of the barrel, "(Pistol) / LF" logo on the right tang and Swedish "Three Crowns" emblem on the right side at the breech. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition showing mostly worn finish, scattered light dings and handling marks. The original front sight, ejector rod and lanyard ring are intact, all visibly numbered parts are matching by assembly number and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lock-up. In 1863 a decision was made ny the Swedish government , to purchase a quantity of 12mm caliber pinfire cartridge  revolvers from the Lefaucheux factory.  2000 Revolvers were purchased by the  Swedish government and delivered into the Swedish Arsenals. The serial number range falls between approx. 78,000 and 80,000. 1110 of these went to the Swedish Army for distribution among cavalry and artillery units, and the remaining 890 went to the Navy.  most  were later updated, in 1879 to centerfire. Very few escaped the 1879 recall and modification process. Examples in original pinfire configuration are considered scarce among collectors.
