Description:
This is a very interesting late-WW2 all-matching Japanese Type 94 Pistol with one matching magazine and a vintage homemade leather holster. Manufactured sometime in 1944, the month stamp was incorrectly stamped the same as the year "19". With Japanese handguns from WW2 the date stamp consists of 2 numbers, one for the year on the left and one for the month to the right. To determine the year you have to add 25 to the number stamped on the left. In this particular case the number is 19 so 19+25 equals 1944. The month stamp is the same as we would use, 1 thru 12 for January thru December. On this Type 94, the armorer accidently stamped 19 again, which of course there is no month number 19. The Nambu Type 94 was designed to be a much faster and cheaper pistol than the Type 14 Nambu already in production. The Type 94 was adopted by the Japanese government during 1934. Initially, excellent quality of parts and finish was maintained during the first few years of manufacturing. By 1940 production of the Type 94 began to accelerate, and as the pressures of war took their toll on Japanese arms production the quality of fit and finish began to suffer. By the last stages of WW2 the Type 94 was manufactured to function, but there was little to no polishing before the gun was hot-blued and no attention was being paid to how the gun looked. This particular example by Nagoya Nambu was almost certainly brought home as a war trophy by an American soldier. It has been re-blued at some point along the way, most likely several decades ago at a minimum. The blue finish on the gun is in excellent condition, showing only some very minor handling marks under very close inspection. The bore in this Type 94 is excellent, bright and clean with sharp lands and grooves rifling throughout the barrel. There is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections in the bore. The original smooth wooden grips are in excellent condition as well, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/dents. As mentioned earlier, all of the numbered parts are matching including the original magazine. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, and we expect that it should function perfectly if the new owner chooses to shoot it. This Nambu Type 94 comes with a nice vintage homemade holster in very good condition. It fits the pistol very nicely and the leather is still soft and flexible with tight stitching. If you have been looking for an affordable all-matching Type 94 this 1944 example with the factory error date-stamp would be a great choice. This pistol should be a good long-term investment and could also be enjoyed at the range without hurting it's value.
