Description:
I am selling this necklace for an estate. The beads are old. At some point the necklace has been restrung with cat gut. This medallion is a copy of a an English 1620 piece. If it wereinial & did not have the hole it would be worth thosands. I took the medallion to a respected jeweler to see if it was silver. He used a machine on the piece which indicated it had high silver content. The jeweler said the only way to tell for sure if it was solid silver would be to take a piece off of the medallion to be analized. With the test he performed the only thing that can be concluded is at the least it is very heavy plate. His other observations were that it is not original but it is old, probably a re-strike. The hole for the necklace is not machine made. No one in the family knows anything about it or where it came from other than it was on display for years in an office.  It is being sold as a display piece similiar to ones used & traded by the "Hudson Bay Trading Co." for furs.
