Description:
These were the first of the rear loaded metallic cartridge revolvers manufactured by Colt. After the expiration of the Rollin White patend owned by Smith & Wesson in 1872, Colt went into immediate production of these guns which were converted from the 1860 Army Model percussion .44 to .44 C.F. metallic cartridge model. Called the Richards Conversion after one of the chief engineers of the project at Colt. Approximately 9000 were manufactured between 1872 and 1878. Even after the introduction of the 1873 Peacemaker, the Richards Conversion remained very popular west of the Mississippi due to its price of $8.50 as opposed to $12.00 for the Peacemaker. This gun is in excellent original condition, has all original parts, and the action is crisp and sharp. The bore is very good, and it retains approximately 75% of its original bright blue, and color case hardened finish. With its 8" barrel and large "plow handle" wooden grips, it has a great feel and wonderful balance. An excellent example of its type.
