Description:
Here is a complete Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.
This revolver is a .44 caliber, four-screw model with a 6-shot fluted cylinder and an 7 ½” long barrel. All matching (low) serial numbers (105629) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, and even on the wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture in the first half of 1860.
Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are strong. Barrel address, “ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD, CT” has light wear. No cylinder scene on the fluted cylinder weapons. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side is light. All of the nipples are in fine condition. All cylinder safeties remain in fairly good shape. Screw heads are in good condition.Brass trigger guard shows some traces of silver plating. Patina on gunmetal is an overall pewter/gray color. Brass has a mellow golden patina. Back aim site is the top of the hammer, small V with fron site on end of octagon barrell. Brass Trigger guard and wrap of grip in brass.
Grips are original one-piece walnut in fair condition. No cartouches remain. Wood shows heavy wear and some chipping at the corners. This is a classic, early production “Fluted Colt Army” revolver.
