Description:
Nice example of a Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Rifle with a desirable antique serial number that was made in 1898. Standard 24" Octagon Barrel, Full Magazine, and Crescent Rifle Buttplate. Original Standard Factory sights include a semi-buckhorn rear and front with German silver blade. Barrel has the correct earliest style 2 line Winchester Address at 12 O'Clock on the top flat. Caliber is marked "38 W.C.F." also on the top flat with no post 1900 proof marks on the reciever or barrel. The original John Browning patent date, model, and Winchester name is located on the upper tang behind the hammer which is also correct. Original walnut wood has subtle tiger stripes in the grain on the stock which is generally standard on takedown rifles. Forend also has some slight figure to it. Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 85% original blue remaining on the receiver. Barrel and magazine tube are 90%+ original blue. Lever shows 50% case colors with somewhat less on the hammer and the buttplate has silvered out. Wood has tight fit to the metal, slightly proud with no-undersizing. Fine overall with mostly light handling marks. Action is nice and the takedown mechanism is also tight with no play or wiggle. Bore is Excellent looking down from the muzzle and Fine+ from the Chamber end. This is one of the best takedown Model 1892's we've had in quite some time. This one came from Maine where nice Winchesters have been known to turn up from time to time.
