Description:
Here's an interesting old Colt from the late 1800's that was sent in a single shipment to Sherman, Texas.  As stated in its Colt letter it was nickel plated and engraved by the New York group headed by the world famous Cuno Helfricht.  Whether he ever touched the pistol is open to question but certainly he oversaw the work and authorized its delivery under his name as most of these pistols were actually treated back then.   As can be seen in the photographs some of the nickel plating has flaked slightly and worn in many places especially around the inner surfaces of the frame near the barrel.  Most of this being due to the black powder being used at the time.  There is also a well repaired crack in the right pearl grip.  The bore has slight corrosion in the depths of the grooves but is otherwise bright and shiny.  The action is smooth and way better than you see in most old Colts with the hammer notches being well preserved and functioning normally.  The bore to cylinder line up is excellent in all chambers according to a bore scope.  All the serial numbers match and the gun appears as is recorded in its letter.  Being the only gun in the shipment to Texas in 1897 would always invite the question of who the actual buyer might have been.  A careful investigation of the matter might be quite exciting and would be even more so if that person could be identified.  Please take a look at the pictures and I thank you for your interest up to this point.  Any questions I'll try and answer via email.
