Description:
Here is a nice Whitney rifle. Whitney was a competitor of Winchester's until Winchester bought them out and closed them down. If I remember correctly, William Bonney (Billy the Kid) surrendered a Whitney rifle after the Stinking Springs shootout. This rifle wasn't that one. This rifle comes off a  southwestern South Dakota ranch.
The bore in this rifle is very nice; probably a 7-8 on a 1-10 scale which is surprising in a black powder era gun.The sights appear to be original though I am not well versed on Whitney sights. The action is tight and functions properly. Wood is solid but has nearly 150 years of dings and dents as might be expected but overall is still very presentable. This not a rifle you'd have to hide from your friends. Barrel legend reads "Whitneyville Armory Ct USA Kennedy". This rifle also has the desirable serpentine lever. Whitneys are not common and often pretty rough but this one is a solid old timer that was present on the frontier when it was still the old west. $60 shipping and insurance  direct to your door unless local law says other wise. Layaway available.
