Rifles like this one were the specialty of a very few gunmakers in the early-19th Century. One of these was David Boyer of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and the Angstadts of Berks County. There was an unquestionable advantage in having two shots at the ready in a day when most would only have one. Whether hunting, attacking or defending, it was invaluable to be able to have a quick follow-up shot. However, these were not easy to build in the least as superposing barrels and regulating the sights calls for great skill and lots of time. This double rifle is a beautiful representative of those that are virtually unobtainium due to the small numbers produced and the attrition of time and hard use, though this isn’t exactly common either! One barrel is marked “LIGHTNING” and the other “THUNDER”. One trigger works both hammers. The patchbox, trigger guard, and butt plate are all made of brass and feature floral engravings. Inside of the patch box a few ramrod accessories like a ball puller, worm, and jag are wrapped in a small piece of cloth. The overall condition is Fine. The action is strong and tight. The barrels swivel smoothly and can be turned one-handed! The bores are bright and shiny with sharp rifling. All the markings are clear. Gorgeous wood grain. This is a very neat piece of history at a fantastic price! Barrel is 38 inches. Caliber: .45 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
