Description:
I am reluctantly putting this rifle up for sale as it is by far the most favorite of any British BP double rifles I have ever had. It was made by Gibbs in Bristol prior to 1889 (detail records are not available due to their destruction during WW2). Like other British BP rifles this one is extremely well made and is in excellent condition - the pistol grip shape favors the Henry style. It has 28 in. steel barrels that have probably been reblacked sometime in the last few decades. The bores are very good with some minor throat pitting and the rifle shoots very well. The barrels have Medford rifling with a gain twist. It has gorgeous butt stock lumber sans cheek piece. LOP is 13 5/8in. to a Silvers pad. It weighs 8lbs. 13oz. The pistol grip is capped with a horn cap. The forend is capped with a lovely sculped piece of horn. It has back action rebounding hammer locks with stalking safeties. There is about 80% coverage of crisp scroll engraving. There is no rust anywhere on the action. It is chambered for the .461 Gibbs No.1 cartridge which is NOT an express cartridge but a full heavy bullet big game slaying round. Recently Ross Seyfried used it in a single shot Gibbs rifle to down a big Cape Buffalo. I shoot it at a heavy 8in.x 12in.x2 1/2in. thick steel gong and believe me it slams that steel like nothing else I have. Dies, brass, loading data, mold, bullet sizing die, and sample targets go with the rifle. Buyer must add $100 for shipping and insurance.
