Description:
This is a Fine Henry Rifle, Manf. by the New Haven Arms Co. serial #1363, 44 RF, 24" octagon barrel with a fair bore showing moderate old pitting and evident rifling throughout. This is an attractive honest Henry with matching numbers found on the barrel, lower tang, buttstock inlet, interior toe of buttplate, upper tang screw and lower buttplate screw. Additionally, the barrel collar is matching the barrel by assembly number "16" and the only non-matching numbered part appears to be the upper buttplate screw numbered "512". The barrel, hammer and lever have toned to a mild gunmetal patina with areas of darker gray patina in between the barrel and magazine and remnants of older cleaned light pitting scattered throughout that is mostly smoothed-over. The standard two-line barrel patent date and address remains intact and remarkably clear. The frame and rounded heel buttplate have toned to a lovely ocher patina showing some scattered very light dings and handling marks. The edges remain quite nice .Behind  the lower tang screw, It  has the Factory "Punch Dot" inspector's marking, as described in the book by "Les Quick" "THE HENRY RIFLE". pages 132, 133.  The walnut buttstock remains in very good plus condition with a lovely antique period varnish showing some scattered spots of lightly flaking finish, light dings and scratches; there are a few small repaired cracks along the interior inletting but these hardly warrant mention. Despite a few areas being a little bit shy at the buttplate the stock retains a prominent "Henry bump" on the left side and really maintains an attractive dark overall appearance. The rifle is not equipped with sling swivels but does have the extra factory dovetail atop the frame for relocating the sight. The original German silver blade front sight and 900 yard ladder rear sight are intact; the rear sight slider appears to be an older replacement. The action seems to function well mechanically and the buttstock contains a nice original four-piece steel cleaning rod including a slotted head section and brass tip section. A lovely example of these iconic rifles for the collector of fine antique arms. Buyer  pays $45.00 shipping to lower 48 states.  I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check.
