Description:
Early Civil War Carbine - Manufactured by Mass. Arms Company, Chicopee Falls - Address: Poultney & Trimble, Baltimore USA & Smith's Patent June 23, 1857 all clearly legible on the left side - Has 22 inch barrel - Bore still has some rifling in place - This is a Civil War field used carbine with low serial number #9101 marked on the gun - Metal surfaces have patina, and metal surfaces have changed to a brown patina, pitting, as consistent with 19th Century field used carbine - This carbine is all original and complete. Has the rear folding leaf sight, barrel release latch forward of trigger within trigger guard, which works as it should and allows the barrel to tip down as depicted in the photo array. The percussion lock functions as it should, and holds at half cock & full cock. The walnut forearm & stock appear to the originals, and also depict that this carbine has seen plenty of field action, as the forearm & stock have dings, scratches, as consistent with field use. Has both original sling swivels, and is a single barrel band.   This is a great all original early model Civil War Example that has survived, and would make a fine addition to any original period collection
