1870s BRITISH Gloucester Marked Antique WEBLEY RIC Model in .380 Revolver
Marked “E. FLETCHER/GLOUCESTER” on the Top Strap
Here we present an antique British Webley RIC Revolver in the .380 Revolver Cartridge, made in England circa the 1870s. Webley produced their first pistol is 1853 and introduced their first double action in 1867. They are best known for supplying many of the British Army’s pistols during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. The RIC Model, short for Royal Irish Constabulary, was adopted by the RIC in 1868 and was a hit in both law enforcement as well as with the citizenry. This one is retailer marked “E. FLETCHER” and Birmingham proofed. Thomas Fletcher was a gunsmith located on Westgate Street in Gloucester beginning around 1842. After Thomas’ death in 1858, his widow Elizabeth (hence, the E. Fletcher on the top strap) carried on the business until her own death in 1890, when she was described in the local newspaper obituary as “Gloucester’s oldest business woman”. This is a fabulous example of a British concealed carry revolver from the late-19th Century!
The overall condition is near fine. The bore is in very good condition. The action remains strong and smooth. The numbers match.
