Description:
The Colt Police Positive Special (First Issue) was first issued in 1907 and remained in production until 1927.  The Police Positive Special was offered in a gloss blue or nickel factory finish, a 4", 5", or 6" inch barrel, and in four different calibers from .32-20 to .38 Special.  This model features a square butt and a longer frame and cylinder than the previous Police Positive model in order to handle the longer cartridges.  It came with fixed sights, a smooth top strap, and checkered black hard rubber grips with the Colt name molded into the top of the grip.  These models had three patent dates with a last patent date of July 4th, 1905 on top of the barrel.  The Police Positive Special was a successful model for the Colt firm, favored by shooters and lawmen for the increased firepower in a still-compact 6-shot double-action revolver.  This particular example is a beautiful factory nickel gun with a 4" inch barrel in excellent, all-original condition.  It has not been "improved" or changed in any way since leaving the factory, and all of the numbered parts are matching to the gun, including the frame, crane, and both grips.  It is obvious that this gun has spent it's entire life in a sock drawer or storage of some type.  The original bright nickel finish is really beautiful, rating 97% plus.  The only deductions come from some very minor handling/storage marks on the gun, visible only under very close inspection, and some flaking of the nickel finish on only the face of the cylinder.  This was likely due to someone scrubbing carbon off of it after firing it, and it is very hard to see and certainly does not stick out when examining the gun.  All of the screws in this gun are in perfect, un-turned condition, and the sideplate shows no evidence of ever having been off of the gun.  The bore is mirror-bright and pristine in this Colt.  There are no visible imperfections in the bore whatsoever, and the rifling still looks brand-new and sharp.  All six chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean and bright.  The original factory grips on this gun are in excellent condition, consistent with the rest of the gun.  They are perfectly fit to this revovler and both grips are numbered on the backside with this Colt's full serial number.  Both grip panels are completely free from any cracks, chips, wear, or repairs, and both sides are tight to the frame with zero play in them.  The action on this pre-war Colt Police Positive Special has to be felt to truly be appreciated.  It is smooth, slick, and perfectly "in time".  The trigger breaks with a light pull in either single or double action operation and all of the controls on this Colt are in 100% perfect working order.  This Colt functions like it left the factory yesterday rather than 96 years ago!  If you have been looking for a factory nickel finish 1st Issue Police Positive Special for your Colt collection this 1924-production piece would be an excellent choice.  We do not see these little revovlers very often in such nice all-original condition, much less with a beautiful original nickel finish.
