Description:
DESCRIPTION:  Winchester Model 1873 rifle, 2nd model with dust cover rail screwed to receiver and external trigger pin, special order 44 WCF rifle having a 28" full octagon barrel 4" longer than standard, set trigger, and case hardened frame, all features confirmed by Cody Museum email sheet. Standard features include the full magazine, crescent butt with trap door butt plate, and straight grip walnut stocks. Serial # 86533 was warehoused on June 8, 1882 and shipped the same day to order # 33169. Cody email sheet will be included with the rifle.
CONDITION:  Barrel and mag tube are a light brown patina with traces of bright blue in protected areas. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Original case hardened receiver retains 5% of the bright case colors with the balance the typical nickel-silver color observed when the case colors fade. Loading gate shows 35% original bright fire blue. All metal surfaces show light surface oxidation but no pitting. Action is tight. Set trigger functions flawlessly. Bore is very good with strong rifling and only scattered light black powder oxidation, no rings or bulges, no deep pits or craters. Original walnut stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, no extra holes, showing typical nicks and scratches. "PB" lightly scratched into butt stock on left side near butt plate. Fore arm wood is of a slightly fancier grain than normal, typical of special order guns, which were given a little extra TLC. Trap door slides freely but the cleaning rods are absent from the trap. Original sights include the short, early rear sight with the checkered ears and the standard early German silver blade front sight without the set screw. Barrel and brass carrier correctly are not marked with the caliber. Correct dust cover is intact. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and a great Winchester to add to your collection.  More pictures available on request, just send me your email address.
