Description:
This is a very handsome 1944 production Ithaca Model 1911A1 pistol in .45 ACP made during World War 2 for the U.S. Military.  One of the most famous pistol models of all time, the 1911A1 was the primary sidearm for the U.S. Military from WW1 into the Vietnam War.  This particular example is serial number 2089163, making it's date of production in the second half of 1944.  It almost certainly was issued and carried in WW2, and then likely was sent thru the U.S. Military's arsenal inspection/overhaul program prior to the Korean War, before eventually being sold off by the DCM commerically in the States.  The U.S.G.I. arsenal parkerizing on this gun looks very good rating 98%, and is a very handsome green-gray tone consistent with the parkerizing used in the late 1940's.  It does not have any arsenal overhaul markings, typical of many of these earlier arsenal refinished guns.  Later on in the late 1950's and 1960's they would typically mark them with the initials of the arsenal doing the work.  During the U.S.G.I. Arsenal inspection/overhaul several of the small parts were swapped out including the hammer, mainspring housing, and safety, but the remainder of the gun appears to be all Ithaca.  These 3 replacement parts all appear to be U.S.G.I. period-correct Remington Rand manufacture.  The original and correct "F"-marked (Flannery Bolt Co.) blued barrel in this Ithaca has an excellent bright bore with sharp rifling.  There is no visible pitting or imperfections throughout the barrel.  The original checkered brown plastic grips are in good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage, and showing only light wear and a few tiny handling marks on either side.  The fitment of the original slide and frame on this Ithaca is excellent, tight and precise without any slop or excessive play in it.  It obviously was not shot very much during WW2 or anytime afterwards.  All of the controls are in perfect working order on this 1911A1 and we have no doubt that it will fire just as reliably and accurately as the day it left Ithaca's factory 76 years ago.  It comes complete with one original U.S.G.I. magazine made by the General Shaver Division of Remington Rand and is stamped "G" on the upper lip of the baseplate.  It is in perfect working order and has a nice original blue finish on the exterior.  If you have been looking for a beautiful example of our military's WW2 primary sidearm this Ithaca 1911A1 would be an excellent choice.  Not only should it be an excellent long term investment that is historically important, but it could be enjoyed at the range or farm without any feelings of guilt.
