Description:
"North to Alaska, go north the rush is on" These 1st Generation Ivory Colt SAA grips are made of Mammoth ivory!!! and that is ivory that is legal to buy and sell. How do I know?  The US Fish and Wildlife Service  told me so.   Why "North to Alaska"?  Well, because the Eskimos have been digging up Mammoth tusks for hundreds of years.  I figure these grips were made as a souvenir of a great adventure in the Klondike. A sourdough prospector purchased them from a Eskimo street peddler in Dawson City and the scrimshawed Polar Bear on Mammoth ivory mounted on a Colt, just screams ALASKAN GOLD RUSH.  At least that's my story and I am sticking to it. These grips are in very good condition despite their age. I need to note that they do not have escutcheons and the screw is threaded directly into the ivory.  However this system seems to work well. They show no damage and fit my 1st Gen. Colt as if they were made for it. I doubt you will ever see another pair. What a great addition this would make to a mining collection, or perhaps a gamblers outfit such as Soapy Smith's.   My Colt is not included.
