Description:
#1033, Al Biesen Gunmaker Spokane, Wn: A True Blue Left Hand 30-06 by Biesen with a Left Hand Mathieu Action (Commercial Left Hand & Not a Conversion), This Mathieu action has a Mauser style claw extractor which is very unusual on nearly all of them made, 23" Hobaugh Premium Chrome Moly Barrel, No rear sight but has a Redfield front ramp with a sight protector and is set up with a fully adjustable Williams peep sight, Barrel mounted sling eye, A properly installed Griffin & Howe side mount with 1" rings that was done by Biesen, Two panel teardrop bolt knob checkering, Timney fully adjustable trigger, Checkered trigger face, Jeweled bolt and follower, Action rails inside and out are polished, A custom (Not Mathieu) deluxe straddle hinged floorplate with a center bow release, A pure Biesen Custom Classic style stock, Biesen classic Triple Pattern full wrap around Fleur-De-Lis checkering with a fairly deep recess, Shadowline cheekpiece, A Biesen Deluxe ebony forend tip, Biesen 2 screw checkered steel grip cap, Biesen signed inside the inletting and on the top of the barrel, 13 1/2" LOP over a Biesen checkered steel buttplate, 7 lbs. 15 oz., The bore as new, A very nice piece of American Black Walnut with a lot of fiddleback and excellent color and contrast, The original Biesen blue remains at 97%, The original stock finish at 97% with very light scattered hunting & handling marks, The checkering remains at 100%, I have a very strong feeling that the bolt handle was done by the Master Mr. Tom Burgess. This rifle will produce 1" groups at 100 yards. Mr. Al Biesen is the Norman Rockwell of custom bolt rifles in America and his merits are covered extensively in the pages of Jack O'Connor and the Gun Digest. The rifle comes with a 2001 letter from Mr. Biesen and he stated replacement was $5000 at that time.

Mathieu Arms Co., Harry (Bud) Mathieu, made one of the first commercial left hand actions and not a converted right hand action. He was in California in the 1950's and had a shop in or around Piedmont, Hayward and Oakland. Weatherby contracted with him and used the Mathieu prior to the Mark V in 1958 and about 185 Weatherby left hand rifles used the Mathieu. History has it that he was quite a character, he built cannons and test fired them in his basement. His house in Hayward was solid concrete and it had an escape route thru a false chimney. He had a helicopter pad and Nubian goats running loose everywhere. The Hobaugh barrel came from The Rifle Shop in Phillipsburg, Montana and made by Bill Hobaugh.
