A.G.Hicks Maker Clev'd. O. 9''Riflemans knife. Made in 1840's. Correct markings,screws,brass fittings,etc. original finish. A G Hicks knives were the first regulation fighting knives purchased and issued by the US Army. This knife has an oval brass guard,iron butt,and rosewood grips bound with brass strips. The grips are fastened to the brass strips by 12,flush ground iron screws. The iron pommel is attached by 2 flush ground,iron screws. The reverse side of the grip is stamped''A. G. HICKS/MAKER/CLEV'D. O. In 3 lines. Replacement scabbard (Peterson states in''American Knives'', that ''only one scabbard has thus far been located''-1958. VERY RARE KNIFE !!
