Description:
The Colt Collector's Association Show Gun this year is a tribute to the Texas Rangers, founded in 1824, and one of the oldest law enforcementanizations in the nation. Initially led by Stephen Fuller Austin, the Rangers gradually evolved from a volunteer indian fighting force to a paramilitary arm of the government and then to a frontier law enforcement entitiy.
In particular, this years Show Gun was configured to honor Ranger Captain Frank Hamer, who is best known for ending the crime spree of the infamous Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow duo in 1934. The eagle head grips on this year's gun replicate those on Hamer's Single Action Army Colt. Show Gun 2019 is unusual in several ways. It has a 4 3/4 inch barrel with a two line address, a three line patent dates format on the left side of the frame, a long fluted cylinder, and is chambered for the 44/40 Winchester cartridge. As such, it may be the only long flute, 44/40, 4 3/4 inch barrel Single Action ever produced by Colt, in either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation. It is silver plated, with fire blue, indexed screws. As you can see from the pictures, it is beautifully exhibition level engraved and fitted with very attractive one piece ivory grips.
