HEAVY BARREL Antique Long Rifle by A.D. BROWN & JOHN ARCHER .40 Caliber

Here we present an antique A. D. Brown Half-Stock Back Action Long Rifle, made circa the 1840s. This would have been a great rifle for hunting medium to large sized game as well as providing protection on the Frontier. This rifle has a relatively short overall length for a “long rifle”. The barrel is very heavy with the whole gun weighing in at 13-1/2 pounds. The barrel begins octagonally and transitions to round about midway. .40 caliber with open rifle sights. This gun also has double set triggers. The stock is attractive striped maple with a large patchbox installed into the right side. The top of the barrel is maker marked “A.D. BROWN” while the lock was made by “JOHN ARCHER”. Not much is known about Brown except that he seems to have been based around New York.
The overall condition is good. The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. The action is not currently functional though there is plenty of mainspring tension.
