Description:
Serial #16583, .303 British, 30 1/4" barrel with a good bore that has dark freckling within the grooves. This is an 1896 dated rifle that has a mostly dark plum-brown patina mottled with spots of pewter gray along with about 50-60% of original blue on protected areas and along the barrel. The bolt is correct but numbered to a different gun, and the receiver is stamped “N^Z" on the left side of the receiver ring. The rifle has fairly crisp BSA and British military markings throughout including double arrow deaccession stamps on the receiver ring and stock. The walnut stock, forend, and handguard have been cleaned and have an added varnish over numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout, and the buttplate tang has extensive markings: “(Broad Arrow) / N.Z. / 03 / 18414 / S". An original magazine is included, as are a sliding muzzle cover, Reid’s Patent nickel rear sight protector, and a period, whitewashed leather sling. The rifle rates very good plus overall, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
