Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1947, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 15oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 14", DAH 2 5/8", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: S20733

The Ideal Grade L.C. Smith is the first level of a "graded" Elsie, with open foliate engraving pattern, nicely figured wood, and the Deely style forend latch rather than a snap-on forend.  They made around 3659 Ideal Grades in 20ga., so it is not a "rare" gun.  However, search long and wide and you will be hard-pressed to find one for sale with as high factory original condition as this fine L.C. Smith Ideal Grade has.  This gun, snFWS20733 built in 1947, shows little use and has 95% vivid case color, 99% barrel blue, 99% charcoal blue on the trigger guard, perfect bores, excellent screws, lots of nice figure in the wood, superb checkering and wood finish, and the mechanics are without flaw.  This Ideal Grade is an incredible find in the vintage gun world.  Look closely at the photos and you will see sure signs of a near new gun; lots of factory blue remaining on the triggers, no wear on the trigger guard, not a crack or split anywhere, and perfect wood-to-metal fit.  This gun has the “SINGLE SIGHTING PLANE RIB”, an option on L.C. Smith guns that results in the shooter not seeing the two barrels when the gun is mounted, but just the rib by design.  The gun sights like an over/under or single barrel gun.  This gun was made and proof tested in a later era with factory 2 ¾” chambers, made for the heavy Winchester Super X type loads, so you don’t have to worry about ammunition for the uplands or traps.  It also has a full-length stock terminating in the factory buttplate with nice modern stock dimensions…an unusual find in a vintage double.  Best of all, the gun is an affordable graded American double gun in 20ga. that has great eye appeal at a great price!  The desirable 28” barrels are choked M/F and are tight as new on both the hinge pin and standing breech like a new gun.  For the shooter/collector, with perfect mechanics, and superb original condition overall, this little Elsie will be a joy to carry afield after upland birds or crushing clays, all the while increasing in value as you enjoy its use.  The L.C. Smith values have been escalating strongly in the last several years, and this is a very desirable configuration with superb condition.  Don't miss out on this one!  Thanks for looking!
