Very early percussion Officer’s Duellers by the greatest Paris gun maker of the Restoration period and one of the highest grade and conditioned Le Page sets extent. Made for a very high ranking French Naval Officer of Flag rank and as with most sets of this high level of ornamentation probably a Royal presentation from the Bourbon King Charles X himself. 14 ¼” o/a with 8 ¼” Damascus .52 caliber multi-groove sighted barrels with swamped muzzles. Numbered in gold alternately “1” and “2” with gold banded breeches and very ornate gold maker name and legend all in gold as well as superb gold bands and floral swags at the muzzles. Gold “ARROW” inlays on the top flats as well as gold “FERN” inlays accentuating the maker name and legend. Color case hardened, ornately engraved mounts with the lock plates engraved with “SEA SERPENT” motifs appropriate for a Naval Presentation. Lock with maker cartouche forward of the hammers encircled in gold. Deluxe walnut checkered stocks with very fancy “SEA SHELL” carved forend caps accentuating the Naval theme. Both stocks serial numbered “2274” on the edge of the barrel channels. Fancy carved ebony butt caps with engraved color case hardened steel boss mounts. Exceptional condition with much of the Damascus blued flashing on the barrels and all the gold inlay. Locks, hammers and mounts with most of the case hardening color. Stocks with the original finish in excellent almost unused condition. Near mint bores and fine working order. With the original Le Page mahogany case (lid hairline) with all the original accessories and the original velvet and gold tooled morocco leather lining in excellent condition.
