Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is a WW1 production Smith & Wesson U.S. Model 1917 revolver in .45ACP. The Model 1917 revolver was put into production during WW1 in 1917 as a supplement to the U.S. Military's standard issue Model 1911 .45 ACP automatic pistol. There simply were not enough 1911's in inventory or in production to arm the rapidly expanding A.E.F. forces. The Model 1917 revolver was manufactured by both Smith and Wesson and the Colt firm during WW1. This particular Smith & Wesson example was built in 1918, and is in very good all-original condition with about 95% of the original bluing remaining. There is some minor finish wear on both sides of this revolver caused by holster carry and handling/use. The cylinder shows the typical minor handling marks and drag line one can expect from a military issued revolver, but no eyesores or bad spots. The case colored hammer and trigger are beautiful on this gun, with both parts showing nice bright original colors and very little wear. The action is still tight on this gun and in perfect time, and the barrel has strong lands and grooves throughout the bore. The original American Walnut grips show only a few minor dings around the end of the butt, and are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. This Smith's grips are the early dished type, this was done away with in the later production guns per the U.S. Army's request. The right grip panel has a nice clean U.S. Army inspection cartouche on the bottom edge, "R.A-D". The holster that comes with this Model 1917 is an original World War 2 production piece, manufactured by Textan in 1942. The leather is still supple with a rich tan color throughout. It shows only minor surface wear in places, typical of a combat-used piece. All of the original stitching is intact and tight, and the original hardware is still intact. This is a fantasic rig for someone looking for an all-original Model 1917 revolver that likely saw some combat in the last stages of WW1, and posibly World War 2 as well.
