Description:
This is one of approximately 150 3rd Model Dragoons that were manufactured in Hartford Ct., but finished and engraved in Colt's London factory.  Given a special serial number range, numbering from #1 on up, these guns were required to be proofed in London and so marked before being sold in Great Britain.  These 150 engraved guns, along with approximately 550 non-engraved 3rd Model Dragoons were shipped to England between 1853 and 1857.  These guns were sold thru Colt's London office in an effort to promote Colt products in Europe and encourage military contract orders from European governments.  This particular gun, serial number 143, has been expertly restored at some time in the past, quite possibly by the well-known Tommy Haas of Spencer Indiana.  The condition is like-new, and the tight English line-scroll engraving is beautiful.  The varnished grips appear to be of deluxe English Oak and are near-perfect, and the silver-plated grip frame is in beautiful condition.  The workmanship on this beautiful antique Colt is absolutely spectacular.  This 3rd Model Dragoon would be a "centerpiece" type addition to any antique cap & ball revolver collection.
