Description:
1831 Dated Antique WICKHAM M1816 FLINTLOCK Musket

Original US Flintlock Made in Philadelphia!

Here we present an antique Wickham US Model 1816 Flintlock Musket made circa 1831 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Marine T. Wickham. These muskets were used by state militias and federal troops in the early-to-mid 1800s. The maker, Marine Wickham, was an armorer and inspector at Harpers Ferry Armory in Virginia before going out on his own in Philadelphia, doing much in the way of contract work for the United States government. This musket would have been made during the Presidency of Andrew Jackson, an era marked by conflict with various Native American tribes in the US, with Jackson moving tribes East of the Mississippi River. Some tribes made treaties with Jackson’s administration, while others made war. The Second Seminole War, the Second Creek War, and the Black Hawk War were just a few of the larger dustups during his presidency.

This musket’s lock is marked “MT WICKHAM/PHILA”. The barrel tang is dated “1831”. The left side of the barrel is proof marked “P”, marked “US” and bears the inspector initials “JM” for Justin Murphy. The left stock flat has the inspector initials “EB”, likely for either Elizur Bates or Lt. Edmund Byrne.

The overall condition is very good. The iron parts are semi-bright. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is in very good condition. The bore is dark and smooth. The action remains excellent. A very nice example of a US flintlock musket from the 1830s!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 42 1/8 inches.

Caliber: .69
