Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1930, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: FW127970

There were a LOT of Field Grade 20ga. Elsies made over the years.  Most you see are well-worn, even ragged guns, with pads, cut and cracked stocks, buggered screws, bad bores, etc.  L.C. Smith 20ga. guns are all built on the Featherweight frame, but many of the guns can be a bit on the heavy side, often weighing close to 6 3/4lbs. even with 26" barrels.  Every-once-in-a-while I find one that is dynamic in hand, with lighter than usual weight, guns with the low game rib from the 1930's or earlier.  This gun, snFW1279270 made in 1930 is just such a gun.  Weighing 5lbs. 15oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, it is a rare find amongst L.C. Smith 20ga. guns being superlight and having awesome modern stock dimensions.  The gun still has 50% factory case color, 90% original barrel blue, 95% trigger guard blue, excellent screws, no cracks, and nice wood as well.  The mechanics are excellent, as this is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, ALL PARTS INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED.  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS HAVE A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  Most guys buying guns of this nature are shooter/collectors that will use the gun for upland birds and clays.  I cannot think of a better suited, or more affordable gun to do that with, as most all of your classic American side x sides in 20ga. have gone up in price and are becoming hard to find, especially guns with plenty of factory original condition that still look good with that “vintage gun” natural wear.  This gun has 26” barrels choked IC/M, good bores, a minimum barrel wall thickness of 38 thousandths with the barrels tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, with the top lever right of center.  The gun had a rock-hard pad when we got it and our gunsmiths installed a vintage NOSHOC pad to perfection.  THIS IS A NICE LOOKING LITTLE DOUBLE GUN.  These guns are going up in value as you enjoy their use, so you won't lose money should you ever decide to sell this nice little piece.  The price is affordable, the gun is attractive and 100% functional.  This little Elsie is a great way to get into the small-bore vintage double gun chase without breaking the bank.  Thanks for looking.
