Description:

This is the nicest military Remington Rolling Block Military Rifle we've had in several years.  I can remember having 4 of these in the past 20 years in this condition with this one being the best overall in terms of metal finish and third in terms of wood.  This probably came out of some South or Central American Country many years ago.  Remington Arms and Sons exported these rifles all over the world and most saw quite a bit of use and abuse over the course of a long service life.  That said, this rifle is approx. 145 years old and aside from some military storage dings and scrapes, doesn't appear to have been issued for anything more than guard duty as the semi-crescent buttplate has all of its original blue except for the top and bottom edges touched the ground.  It has a rack number on the top comb of the stock and that is probably what it did most of its life, lived in a rack inside some arsenal.   I have an old cartridge that someone told me was .43 Spanish (but no headstamps).  That's what fits in the chamber so I'm going with.43 Spanish unofficially as the caliber but you'll need to get this verified with a chamber casting. Barrel measures 35" secured by three bands.  Military style ladder rear sight.  Complete with original sling swivels and cleaning rod.  Upper tang has the Remington address along with multiple patent dates running from 1864 to 1874.  The sling swivels also have tiny patent dates on the lower portions of the ring dated 1868.
Overall condition is NRA Antique Excellent with 95% original strong case colors across the receiver.  The breech block, hammer, and pins have 98% bright blue overall.  The barrel also shows 98% strong original blue overall with minior nicks and scratches.  Barrel bands have 90% original blue overall.  Buttplate has 90% bright blue.  Very Good+ original walnut stock and forend with 95% of the original Remington factory oiled finish intact. No cracks or repairs.  Has nice wood-to-metal fit but shows numerous dings, scratches, etc from storage and light military usage.  Action works perfectly.  Bore is MINT....mirror bright with crisp rifling and no pitting.  Original sights.  This is an exceptionally nice example of a military Rolling Block.  We rarely find antique weapons from the 1870's era in NRA Antique Excellent Condition, rolling blocks especially.  90% are in Poor to Good Condition.  Sometimes Very Good to Fine, but almost never Excellent...less than 1%.
