King Louis VIII had a brother, and protocol required him to be called "Monsieur". He became king of France under the name of Charles X. Before this coronation, he had available to him companies of bodyguards assigned to guarantee his safety. These muskets were produced in very small quantities, are similar to the muskets of the foot grenadiers of the Guard Gouvernementale ( later of the Directoire). This musket is very rare and in excellent condition and is well marked and made with the best materials and workmanship at the French Arsenal at St Etienne. This musket has the unique drum lock designed to make the musket ready to fire in any weather condition. It also contains the Monsieur's coat of arms on the top of the wrist. This type of musket is described in the book by Didier Bianchi on page 130, French Military Small Arms, Volume 1. OBO SOLD Antique: Yes |
