*MODEL: 1873 Second Model Sporting Rifle, made in 1891
*CALIBER: .44wcf
*BARREL: 24" Octagon
*ACTION: Lever
*SIGHTS: Buckhorn rear
STOCK: Straight-grip Walnut stock with plain forearm, and metal cresent butt plate.
FINISH: Bluing on barrel and receiver is a mottled grayish brown with white showing where the bluing has worn off. Metal shows light scratches and nicks on barrel and receiver.
WOOD: Stock has turned a dark brown due to age with some scratches and dings from handling. Forend on left side has a 3" pieceod wood missing from the stock.
BORE: Light frost with good rifling
MECHANICS: Due to wear the bolt catches on the hammer when cocking. Carrier block does not engage when lever is cocked.
ASSESSMENT: Based on the overall conditon and the mechanical operation of the rifle I would rate this gun somewhere between fair and good. Good gun for beginning collector.
