Description:
This is single action percussion 44 caliber 6 shot revolver. It #7 and is stamped on both of the grips, cylinder arbor, cylinder, trigger lever rammer and left frame grip. All of the numbers are matching. Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms says about 700 were produced in 1861.It is recorded that the U.S. Government purchased 536 of them in 1861. This is not martially marked and it is unknown if any were ever so marked. The mechanical function is very crisp and tight. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny, like new. It is very fine condition overall with over 35% original finish remaining. The grips retain over 85% original finish. It is believed that the large 44 caliber Army size revolvers were issued to the 2nd and 3rd regiments of Michigan cavalry during the Civil War.
