Description:

“[19]41” Dated WWII MAUSER S/42 Code Luger Pistol

World War II Nazi German Sidearm

Here we present a Nazi German S/42 Code P.08 Luger Pistol, made by Mauser-Werke in Oberndorf, Germany in 1941. This variant of the Luger Pistol is notable for its “S/42” code, which was a secret designation for the Mauser company, which made it. This was done after the brutal Treaty of Versailles put stringent limits on Germany’s military, as well as their arms manufacturing. Other codes were applied to other makers as well to obscure the source of their products. Date codes were initially used during the first few years of illicit production but were done away with as the budding Nazi government grew bolder. With the world’s eyes diverted, Germany rearmed itself and prepared for the next World War.

Georg Luger was the inventor and the namesake of this very successful pistol. His design would be especially successful throughout World War I & World War II. These pistols had and still have a reputation of being of utter quality and quite expensive to produce.

This specimen is marked “41” on the chamber and “S/42” on the toggle. German military acceptance and proof marks are located on the right side of the frame. The barrel is proof marked. Each of the parts, internal and external, are serialized.

The overall condition is good. The original finish is about 35%. The markings are clear and legible. Serial numbers on the frame, barrel and small parts match, including the magazine. The grips and toggle assembly do not match. The bore is bright. The hardwood grips are in good shape. The action is strong. Heavy, black leather holster is in good condition with some stitch repair to the magazine pouch.
