Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extremely proud to offer this stellar example of Winchester's model 55 decked out in deluxe features. The model 1894 rifle was discontinued in 1924, and was replaced by the model 55. Only about 20 thousand were made, and very few deluxe models were ordered. That fact has made them nigh the top of many collectors' lists for value. Deluxe features were simply figured wood with checkering and a capped pistol grip. Made in the year of our Lord 1927, this lever gun looks nowhere near its 93 years. It bears the more desirable model 55 exclusive serial number. Later production guns were issued 7 digit model 94 serial numbers. I believe it was a "trophy rifle" for the original owner, and seldom used. He neatly placed a piece of paper bearing his name and address curled up in the stock recess under the butt plate. The gun is well oiled, and looks about new everywhere you look. The blue is deep and lustrous, with perhaps a bit of thinning at the muzzle and under the receiver. The receiver itself has some light longitudinal lines, similar to what is usually seen on an 1886. They were hard to capture in photos, and look quite natural. The stampings are factory sharp. The highly figured walnut is also very good, tight to the steel and nicely checkered. It is the only XXX wood we have ever observed on a model 55 from any source. The tang bears the assembly order number 57, as does the stock and butt plate. The bore of the 24 inch tapered round barrel is gleaming. Winchester did not skimp on quality when changing to this model, as the pedestal for the front sight is actually part of the barrel and not added on. The takedown feature was standard on most 55's, and she takes down in about 15 seconds and locks up tight just as fast. The grip cap is fastened by the telltale engraved screw, and the stock is topped of with a serrated steel butt plate. It has a few light scratches, but looks good. What a difference 30 years makes. The other gun pictured is a deluxe takedown 1894 from 1898. Investors, take note. One of these deluxe 55's sold for 7450 at one of the big national gun s in 2013. It had much plainer wood, and values have only gone up since then. I will list this one for much less. If you have been looking for the right model 55 to collect or for investment, but want what may be the best one extant, than look no further.
