Very nice and original 1910 vintage Springfield 1903 rifle fitted with a 24 inch barrel, an original factory walnut stock which is fitted with checkered steel butt-plate with trap-door for cleaning kit (which is present), leather sling, and chambered in 30-06. The action and barrel retain 80% of their beautiful original blue finish, the bolt and bolt handle about 50%, the front sight hood 80%, the trigger guard 80%, the floor-plate 60% (most loss due to flaking), and the trigger guard about 80% of its original blue finish. The bore in this Springfield "12-10" dated barrel is bright with sharp rifling, and the action is tight and functions perfectly. The leather sling is in very good condition, with no cracks or pieces missing. The cartouches on the stock are crisp, as are all the factory stampings on the metal surfaces. What sets this apart from other 1903's is the "LT F SHAMEL" and "USNRF" stampings on the left side of the stock indicating the gun was issued to Lt. Fred Shamel, who served with the US Naval Aeronautics division. A great collectors piece from pre World War One.
