Description:
Introduced in 1982, the .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 629 is one of the firm's most famous revolvers, and has been produced in a great deal of variations during the production run.  The Model 629 is a stainless steel version of the S&W Model 29, designed to be all-weather and very low maintenance.  It is well-known and coveted by both shooters and collectors alike, with a reputation for being very well made, reliable, accurate, and very powerful.  The Model 629 double-action revolver has taken big game all over the world, including dangerous game both here in the United States and in Africa.  This particular all-original example was made in the very first year of production, 1982, and it remains in very good condition overall.  It has the sought-after features of a pinned barrel and counter-bored chambers (recessed), features only offered on this model for 2 years before they were eliminated.  It features the longest barrel length offered of 8 & 3/8ths inches, all stainless steel construction, a 6-shot fluted cylinder with recessed chambers, a red ramp front sight, a white-outline adjustable rear sight, a target hammer, a smooth target trigger, and factory checkered Goncalo Alves Target grips.  This Model 629 has been used and the stainless steel shows some various minor handling and storage marks but no eyesores.  As you can see from the pictures, it still is a very attractive gun.  The bore in this S&W is excellent, showing sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no visible imperfections.  The cylinder bores are equally as clean and free from any damage or imperfections.  The factory grips show some small dings and handling marks but are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The grips have crisp and clean checkering, and both sides show some really pretty figure and grain in them.  The action on this Smith is smooth, slick, and perfectly "in time" whether it is worked in single-action or double-action.  The lock-up is nice and tight on the cylinder, and the trigger on this Model 629 is exceptional in single-action operation, breaking like a glass rod with a light pull.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, including the adjustable rear sight.  All in all, this Model 629 should function 100% like the day it left the factory.  This 1st year production Smith & Wesson would be an excellent addition to any collection as both an investment and shooter.
