Description:
This is a Model 1930 Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol, known as the M30 by collectors. It is a post World War One production pistol that roughly began in 1929 and continued in variations till Mauser ceased production of the famous C96 in 1936-37. Early variations of the M30 have a small 132mm 'bolo' barrel on a pre-war style full frame and 12 groove grips. The later models have pre-war full length 140mm barrels on a full size frame with 12 groove grips. Both styles have simplified internals as compared to the pre-war commercial C96's and throughout the M30's production miscellaneous parts would come in three different finishes: in the 'white' like the pre-war model, a vibrant 'fire blue', or a standard blue like the frame on the late models. All variations include a new improved safety that can be operated one-handed versus requiring two hands like the pre-war models. Compared to the pre-war C96 the M30 has a much darker almost black blue with a polished finish. The serial number can be found on the barrel near the ejection port on the early M30's or behind the rear sight on the late variation. All variations of the M30's have aditional serial number stamped on the receiver but a full dissasembly is required for it to be visible. The last detail of the M30 is the early variations still have the milled rails, with the late variations having simplified solid rails. This particular M30 is an early production example of the late model variation, and thus still has the serial number by the ejection port, simplified solid rails, and the deep black blue of the M30 variation. This pistol has the various late blue parts: blued hammer, leaf sight and improved safety. It has the proper 12 groove grips. It is in great condition with some light peppering throughout and pitting where the grips meet the frame. There are some tooling and handling marks near the barrel step. It has excellent rifling with a clean bore and is in excellent mechanical condition. The M30 is the last variation of the famous German manufactured Mauser C96 pistol. Various firms in China and Spain would continue manufacture of the design into the 1970s. This is an excellent firearm to include in a collection, or perfect for taking out to the range and shooting this cult classic.
