Description:
The Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece is one of the finest double-action .22 caliber production revolvers ever made.  The Pre-17 K-22 was built on the square-butt K target frame with 5 screws and a 6-shot fluted cylinder.  The early-production postwar guns have a narrow serrated top rib with a slight taper.  The factory sights are a Patridge front sight and a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight.  The Pre-17 K-22 Masterpiece features a factory gloss-blue finish with a color case-hardened trigger and hammer, and checkered American Walnut "diamond" stocks with silver S&W medallions.  The Pre-17 K-22 is well known for being extremely well-made, very reliable, and incredibly accurate.  This particular example was made in 1955 and remains in spectacular all-original condition.  While it has been fired, it likely has not been fired more than a handful of times.  The original gloss blue finish is beautiful and rates 98 to 99%, with the only deductions coming from a very faint drag-line around the cylinder.  It does not show any finish wear or handling marks elsewhere, including the front and rear grip straps.  All of the screw heads on this Smith are un-marred and in perfect shape.  The case colored hammer(early-style hammer) and trigger are like-new, showing 100% coverage of bright colors and no fading or wear.  The bore in the pinned 6" inch barrel is minty and mirror-bright.  The rifling still looks new with sharp lands and grooves and zero erosion, pitting, or imperfections.  The 6 counter-bored chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean as the barrel, and completely free of any imperfections.  The original checkered American Walnut "diamond" grips look like-new, with both sides free from any wear, cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and are a perfect match to each other.  The right side grip is properly factory stamped with the serial number, which is matching to the gun.  Both of the silver S&W medallions are clean and like-new.  The action on this Pre-17 K-22 is extremely smooth and slick, and perfectly "in time".  The trigger is smooth and precise, breaking with a light pull without any excessive over-travel.  All of the controls are crisp and in perfect working order, including the rear sight.  This Smith & Wesson is truly an all-original collector-grade beauty.  If you have been looking for an investment worthy Pre-17 K-22 Masterpiece, this 1955 5-screw example would be a superb choice that would be nearly impossible to upgrade.
