U.S. M1861 Musket Dated “1864” Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1861 Musket, made by William Muir & Company in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1863. The M1861 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. This specimen was sold on the surplus market after the Civil War. The bore was made smooth and was almost certainly used as a shotgun or for buck and ball. This would have made a very inexpensive tool for those going West who would need to hunt for their food and protection from man and beast. The rear of the lock is dated “1864”. The lock is marked “EAGLE/U.S./Wm. Muir & Co./Windsor Locks, CT.”. The overall condition is Good. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is dark. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 38 inches. Caliber: .62 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
