Description:
Serial #40965, .230 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has freckling along its length. This is a handsome little revolver, marked “WILKINSON & SON" along the top of the barrel, that retains traces of the original blue finish on protected areas of the barrel and knurled cylinder. The brass frame has an overall yellow-ochre patina, with crisp foliate engraving, and a “WILKINSON" surcharge stamped over the “TRANTER’S" in the “football" patent mark on the left side of the frame. The checkered walnut grip has scattered small handling marks and blemishes, with some additional flattening of the points, and the lanyard swivel is no longer present. The action is functional in double-action, but the hammer does not stay cocked in single-action. This very revolver is illustrated on pg. 82 and 83 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007), and would make a nice addition to any collection of Tranter handguns. Antique
