Description:
HAND-FORGED Katana Style Japanese SWORD with Hidden Dagger Hilt!

Japanese Sword with Skull Kolguchi and a Blade That’s Still Sharp!

Here we present a Japanese Katana with Dagger Hilt, manufactured circa the 1940s.

After the war, Japan incorporated a law that caused sword ownership to be illegal. Most of the Japanese soldiers and citizens surrendered their swords and complied Many of these swords ended up being destroyed or taken home as souvenirs by American soldiers.

This one features a solid black leather wrapped wood tsuka (grip). The tsuba (hand guard) is quite ornate with gold detailed floral designs. The entire sword is held together by the mekugi (small bamboo pin) in the middle of the tsuka. Though the Japanese had adopted several more Western designs for military blades, this one was still based on the traditional Japanese sword known as the katana with a slightly curved blade ending in a piercing, angular point. The katana ha (cutting edge) is still very sharp. There are what appears to be swordsmith’s markings on the tang. More than likely this sword was hand forged, rather than factory machine made since these markings are present. The Kolguchi (mouth of scabbard) has an odd underworld type of scene with skulls pictured.

The dagger is hidden in the pommel and can be pulled out quite quickly. A very neat feature!

The overall condition is Fine. The mune (back of the blade) has no dings or dents visible to the eye. The Ha (cutting edge) is sharp! There is an indentation on the left side of the blade. The tsuka is in fantastic shape. The scabbard overall remains in great shape! A truly fine and rare piece of Japanese history.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Blade length is 38-1/2 inches.

Overall condition as seen in photos.
