We are offering for sale a Remington Model 1871 Rolling Block NEW YORK MILITIA rifle chambered in .50/70 caliber. This is a very nice example in fully functioning condition. We can tell this is a NYS Militia Rifle because when the breech is closed the hammer falls to half-cock position and must be cocked to fire. This did not happen with the Standard No.1 models.
36” barrel is very good with very light general surface wear. The bore remains very good with minimal surface wear; Very good rifling present. Original sights intact. Barrel marked with an “S” and “P” on either side of the breach. Receiver is very good with some light oxidation wear present; Marked “B” on the left side. The hammer, falling block and trigger all function properly. Trigger guard shows surface wear. Original stock is very nice with little field wear present; Stock has a cartouche on either side of the wrist and one on the left side of the stock. The stock is without damage. Correct barrel bands are marked. Original cleaning rod intact.
