The word rare is overused in the sale of firearms, but in the case of this rifle it is truly rare and here is why. During WWII it was virtually impossible for M1 Carbine manufacturers to keep pace with parts inventory, thus they experieinced parts shortages. The engineering genius of the M1 Carbine enable all eleven manufacturers to transfer needed parts amongst each other, enabling them to continuosly build. The lateral support between these producers was documented as best could be. In mid-1943 Underwood Elliot-Fisher ran short of M1 Carbine receivers, so Inland Manufacturing laterally sent them a total of 8,000 INLAND DIV. stamped receivers enabling Underwood to keep producing. Since the Inland receivers were already stamped INLAND DIV. with serial number stamped behind, it was required the original producer stamp a line through their identification stamp and that the finishing producer stamp a unique I.D. on the rear of the receiver and repeat stamp the serial number ahead of the rear sight. LOOK AT THE PICTURE OF THE RECEIVER and you will see what I have described here. That is why this rifle is ONE of 8,000. All of the other parts to this rifle are Underwood produced and all match correctly for the manufactureres date of production, part type, and identification stamp where able. All of the parts are USGI and the finish on all appear to match consistantly with being original. There are no armorers rebuild or import markings or evidence of any post war rebuilding. I can only post a limited number of pictures in this ad but if you are interested I have over 150 pictures available to send you. The Stock is the correct early Original I-Cut oiler well version High Wood with the correct large UEF GHD inside a box on the right butt stock, RMC stamped inside the sling well, and Circled P on the pistol grip base. The cross cannon cartouche mark was used later. The Type 1 Wide/Deep Sight Well Two Rivet Hand Guard is correctly stamped M-U on the underside. The following is a list of all of the parts to this carbine based on type, stamping, picture verification, or measurement according to Roger Larson's book "Comprehensive Guide M1 Carbine", which is a must have if you are interested at all in M1 Carbines or military history for that matter.
