Description:
This is a very nice all-original 1936 dated S/42-code Luger made by Mauser in Nazi Germany during WW2. These guns were built by Mauser in their Oberndorf factory located on the Neckar river in Germany. They used various codes to hide their pistols' origins from the Allies throughout the war, to prevent targeting of their factories. Mauser used the code "S/42" from 1936 to 1939 dropping the "S" in 1940. S/42-code guns feature a hot salt-blued finish, a rear frame bump, the standard German Army test proof, and "Weimar Eagle 63" Waffenamts. The vast majority were fit with checkered wood grips, with about 2% fit with checkered black plastic grips and an even smaller number with Krieghoff-type coarse checkered brown plastic grips. This particular example is serial number 602L, and is fit with the standard checkered wood grips which are un-numbered. The original hot salt-blued finish on this Luger is in good condition, rating 90% plus. The deductions on this pistol come from some high-edge wear from being carried in the holster and physical handling. As you can see from the pictures, this finish wear does not detract much from the clean and attractive look of this Luger. The bore in this Luger is very good overall with a little frosting in the grooves, but with nice strong and sharp lands throughout. All of the numbered parts are matching in this gun including the toggle pin, hold-open, and firing pin, which are three commonly mismatched parts. The grips on this Mauser Luger are in good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. Both grips show some handling/storage marks that are consistent with the rest of the pistol. The unique toggle-action on this Luger is smooth and slick. It locks into battery perfectly and locks open properly on an empty magazine.  All of the controls on this Luger are in perfect working order and it should function just as well today as the day it left the Mauser factory 80 years ago. This S/42-Code 1936 dated Luger comes with one original WW2-production metal-bottom magazine in perfect working order. The magazine is un-numbered as the original serial number has been polished off, leaving only the German proof and "2" (2-meaning it's the number 2 magazine of a police rig).
