Description:
General Specs: E. Kerner, Germany, Year 1941, 16 Gauge, 7lbs 12oz
Serial Number: 3242

Emil Kerner entered the gun business somewhere around 1890, having been from a family of gunmakers dating back to 1606!  That is an amazing history.  E. Kerner & Sohn remained in the gun making/gun trading business until 1946 when the Soviets shut them down.  Being a small company, he did not make large numbers of guns, but was known for building quality guns for the common man all the way to royal shooters.  This gun, sn3242 made in 1941, was built late in the game while Suhl was under German Nazi occupation, as noted by the proof marks.  The combination gun, with smooth-bore 16ga. shotgun barrel placed over an 8 x 57 JR rifle barrel, allows for hunting a wide variety of game with one gun in hand.  The German made guns are wonderfully engineered, nicely engraved, and very precise.  The front trigger is a “set trigger” for the rifled under barrel.  Push it forward and it sets to break at a very crisp 2lbs. pull.  The rear trigger operates the shotgun barrel.  This particular gun is built with quick-release claw mounts, and comes with a German made Eduard Kettner 6 x 42 scope with the German #1 post style reticle and still has crisp clear optics.  The quick release claw mounts lets you remove the scope easily, shoot birds or use iron sights, and return the scope to its mounts with a perfect zero every time.  Most who walk the woods with a combination gun in search of grouse and/or dear keep the scope in a belt hung pouch at the ready for the longer shots that require a scope.  This gun has all original metal finishes, excellent bores in both barrels, is tight as new on breech face and hinge pin, mechanically excellent in all ways.  It is an extractor gun and has good shooting dimensions.   With the classy engraving, fine checkering, German quality…there isn’t much not to like about this gun.  Thanks for looking!
