Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1948, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 5/16", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 9/16" Serial Number: 21956 Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of far superior strength and mechanical genius that was under the micro-management of John Olin himself. With only 32,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm sure to appreciate as you enjoy its use. From 1930 to 1980, they only made about 2900 twenty-gauge guns in all grades. Model 21's are fully capable of shooting the most powerful loads available, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN. This Model 21 twenty gauge, sn21956 built in 1948, is in exceptional condition with all factory original parts, barrel blue retains 98% factory blue, the action retains 97% factory blue, trigger guard 75% factory blue, and the wood retains 98% factory original finish with only light field marks. Most know that the Winchester Model 21 trigger plate on the action tends to have the finish flake and wear prematurely, leaving a very unattractive look to the bottom of the action. This gun has had the trigger plate only blued and was very nicely done. That is the only restoration on the entire gun. The mechanics are excellent, screws and bores are perfect, there are no cracks or splits in the wood, and the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. It is hard to find these Model 21 guns in 20ga. with 28” barrels and field chokes, as most are 26” with skeet chokes. This gun was shipped with modified and full chokes and 2 ¾” chambers. Sometime in the last 72 years the chambers were professionally lengthened to 3” chambers with 1 ½” long forcing cones and the chokes were altered to IC/M. Our gunsmiths have measured the barrel specifications and the gun is safe to shoot with modern loads and can even be used with hard non-toxic shot like steel, tungsten/iron, or any modern load available. This is the perfect 20ga. duck/goose gun, and a superb choice for late season pheasants, turkey, or other tough birds. Of course, you can shoot moderate loads just as well, and IC/M chokes are superb for the clay target games. There are many 20ga. Model 21 guns to choose from, but how do you know which one to buy??? I suggest that you only buy a valuable, investment quality shotgun if you know for sure what you are getting. You need details to make an informed choice…details that most other sellers simply do not provide, like bore diameter, barrel wall thicknesses, stock dimensions, chokes and other specifics that make a big difference in value. And how about photos that will let you see the gun and its condition before you spend your hard-earned money? We at Vintage Firearms, Inc. work hard to provide the power of knowledge and the opportunity to buy solid, investment quality firearms with no excuses or surprises. We even answer our phone all day long, 6 days a week. We want your business! Thanks for looking!
