It was originally introduced in 1988 in Gen 1 configuration and introduced in its current Gen 3 configuration in 1998. At the time of its introduction, the G17L was somewhat unusual as few semi-automatic pistols had 6-inch barrels at the time. There was a police-only special-order S&W Model 5906 Competition model, but these were few and far between. Then of course, there was the AMT Hardballer Long Slide which was a stainless steel 1911 with an even longer 7-inch barrel. If you have ever seen the film Terminator, this is the long-barreled, scoped pistol the T-800 uses. Again, this pistol was not a common sight, so the G17L must have stood out pretty well back in 1988. Believe it or not, despite its intended use as a competition pistol, the G17L has seen being used by military forces and law enforcement on a limited basis. One nice feature about the Glock G17L is the long sight radius of over 8-inches. By comparison, the venerable 1911 sports a sight radius of 6.8 inches on a full-size model. The long sight radius of the G17L gives it a high level of accuracy. The longer barrel also allows it to make good use of 9mm ammunition, particularly the +P and +P+ varieties, resulting in higher velocities and muzzle energy than a standard 9mm pistol. The example shown here is like new condition. There is no finish wear on top of the barrel and the inside of the slide still retains the Glock factory copper-colored lubricant. The gun is most likely unfired. The bore appears to have never had a round through it, though Glock would have test fired it at the factory to comply with federal regulations. The followers in the magazines do not have any powder residue on them either. There is a small mar in the finish on the top of the slide, but no muzzle wear. It comes with its original box, a spare magazine, the manual, loading tool, sight adjustment tool, and cleaning rod and brush. SOLD Manufacturer: Glock G.m.b.H.
