Description:

FRENCH Imperial FLINTLOCK Officer’s Pistol

Napoleonic Era Big Bore .69 Caliber for an Officer

Here we present an antique Imperial French Flintlock Officer’s Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in Liege. The First French Empire (officially the French Empire) was the empire of Napoleon Bonaparte of France and the dominant power in much of continental Europe at the beginning of the 19th century. A series of wars, known collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, extended French influence to much of Western Europe and into Poland. At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 70 million subjects, maintained an extensive military presence in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Duchy of Warsaw, and counted Prussia and Austria as nominal allies.

This pistol is closest in form to the French Model 1814 Gendarmes de la Garde. This would have been the type of pistol an officer purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy. The top of the barrel is stamped with crossed laurels. The trigger guard is modestly engraved. The barrel is octagonal with a slightly flared muzzle.

The overall condition is very good. The iron parts are dark. The markings are clear. The stock is smooth and solid. There is a repair on the right side near the muzzle and on the left side opposite the lock. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a very neat and scarce example of a French officer’s pistol.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 7 7/8 inch octagon.

Caliber: .69

Overall condition as seen in photos.
