Description:
This is a 49-50 year-old semi rarity.  Finding one of these is like going to a drag queen show. Or so I'm told.  At first glance you're expecting another model 36 Chiefs Special.   But then as you look a little closer you see it's um......Definitely Not What You Thought It Was.  Of course once you get past the inital surprise and get recalibrated you can relax and just enjoy it for what it is.  Or so I'm told.
Let's review.  Terriers started out on the I frame which then gave way to the stronger J frame.   The Chief Special and mod36 was a 38special while the Terriers  and mod32s were 38S&W.  Chiefs Specials became the "Eagles Greatest Hits" of the gun world (everybody owns one) while Terriers trended the way of 8track tape copies of "Shotgun Willie" (awesome if you ever happen to stumble across one).
This is a model 32-1 with an R-prefix.  Grips are great and bluing is very good except for some freckling on (1) the backstrap and (2) front of the grip frame and (3) a smudge mark below the logo on the left side (see photos).  Also the barrel markings have been filled in with that gold stuff we used to dress up blue guns back in the day.   Thankfully it can easily be removed without damaging the blue - but I've left it on because I thought it fit with the vintage of the gun.

A close look at the photos shows no turn line, only a hint of a powder ring on the cylinder and almost no cartridge marks behind the cylinder.  It's not an I frame.  It's not a flat latch with diamond grips.   It doesn't have the box and papers.  But overall this is a fine example of an unusual gun that just never became quite as popular as its cousin.

**********Blue Star Hobbies is a group of friends in Central Illinois working together to ocassionally offer up items from our personal collections.  From time to time we may list a rifle or shotgun but our focus is mostly S&W, Colt, & Ruger handguns built between 1946-1980.   Our guns are better than our photography.   We try to highlight flaws with red circles and everything else is usually glare or blanket fuzz.   If you have a question about a photo please ask.  We follow all Federal and State laws and GI policies. Please add $25  for standard shipping.  Our FFL will ship to your FFL on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to minimize in-transit risks.   **********
