The M1833 Saber was manufactured by the Ames Manufacturing Company specifically for the 1st and 2nd United States Dragoons Regiments. About 6,100 of these sabers were constructed from 1833 to 1839. The sword was heavily inspired by the British 1822 Light Cavalry Saber and the M1833 was used in the Second Seminole War, the Southwest Indian Wars and the Mexican War. These sabers have been found used in the Civil War! With only 6000 ever made how many are left? The pipe-back spine of the blade not only strengthens the blade, but it stiffens the spine; a design that lends itself well to thrusting on the charge as the blade will minimize flex in the thrust and will efficiently transmit maximum energy into the target.
